Rooted in Tradition. Focused on the Future.
Lifelong Blount Countian. Educator. Faithful Servant. Proven Conservative Leader.
Brett Coulter’s life and leadership are deeply rooted in Blount County soil. Born and raised right here in Maryville, Brett has lived his entire life in the community he loves and has spent more than four decades working to prepare the next generation of Blount Countians for success.
Brett’s family story is one of hard work, faith, and service. The Coulter family first came to Blount County at the dawn of the 19th century, around the year 1800, and has been part of the county’s fabric ever since. For nearly 130 years, the family business—Coulter’s Florist—has been a fixture in downtown Maryville, proudly recognized as Blount County’s oldest continuously operating business since 1896. That legacy of community service, entrepreneurship, and integrity continues to inspire Brett’s own dedication to public service.
Brett devoted more than 40 years of his professional life to the Maryville City School System, serving as a teacher, administrator, and leader. From the classroom to the central office, his mission was always clear: to inspire, guide, and prepare students to reach their potential.
He has been a steadfast advocate for strong public schools, believing that education is the foundation of opportunity, strong families, and a thriving local economy. Throughout his career, Brett worked to build partnerships between parents, teachers, and community leaders—helping to ensure that every child, no matter their background, has access to the tools and support they need to succeed.
A Life Devoted to Education and Public Service
Faith, Family, and Community
Brett’s faith is not just part of his life—it defines it. He currently serves as a Deacon at New Providence Presbyterian Church and previously taught Sunday School at First United Methodist Church of Maryville for many years. In every season of his life, Brett has sought to lead by example through humility, compassion, and service. His Christian faith is the cornerstone of his leadership philosophy and the guiding force behind his commitment to public life.
Brett and his wife Maria share a deep love for Blount County, its people, and its traditions. Together, they are active in community events, civic causes, and local charities that strengthen the bonds of faith, family, and fellowship across the county.
“Family is at the heart of who I am and why I serve. Growing up in Blount County, my sisters—Kenna, Karen, and Kim—and I were raised by parents who led by quiet example. My father, Kenny Coulter, built a long and respected career in banking, while he and my mother, Ann, instilled in us the importance of integrity, service, and faith in everyday life. They raised us as active members of First Baptist Church of Maryville, where the spiritual foundation that continues to guide my life was first formed. Though my mother is no longer with us, I know she would be proud to see those same values carried forward today. I was honored to have Dad and my sisters stand with me at my campaign kick-off and am deeply grateful for their love and support. Their example reminds me that public service is not just my calling—it’s a family commitment to faith, community, and the people of Blount County.”

A Proven Conservative Leader
Brett has been a principled conservative Republican since he first volunteered on President Ronald Reagan’s 1984 re-election campaign. He believes conservatism is not about chaos or volume—but about principles that stand the test of time.
His philosophy of governance is rooted in the enduring tenets of constitutional conservatism:
• Limited but effective government — strong enough to defend us, steady enough to uphold the law, and humble enough to leave people free.
• Fiscal responsibility — because debt today is a burden on our children and grandchildren tomorrow.
• Freedom with responsibility — liberty must always walk hand-in-hand with accountability and virtue.
• Strong families and safe communities — because the strength of a nation begins at home.
• Respect for tradition — not as a chain that holds us back, but as an anchor that keeps us steady.
Brett is running for Blount County Mayor to ensure that our county’s future remains strong, steady, and grounded in the values that have guided generations of Blount Countians. His priorities reflect both his lifelong experience in public service and his deep respect for local institutions:
• Responsible Growth: Partnering with the Blount County Economic Development Board to ensure development aligns with infrastructure, protects community character, and enhances quality of life.
• Economic Vitality: Working hand-in-hand with the Blount County Chamber of Commerce to strengthen small businesses, support job creation, and promote entrepreneurship.
• Tourism & Natural Beauty: Collaborating with Blount Tourism and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park to promote responsible tourism that preserves our natural treasures while strengthening the local economy.
• Public Safety: Supporting strong local law enforcement while respecting the autonomy of the Blount County Sheriff’s Office and ensuring close cooperation among all public safety partners.
• Transparency & Integrity: Leading with honesty, professionalism, and open communication to make county government more responsive and accountable to the people it serves.
Committed to Blount County’s Future
A Servant Leader for the Next Generation
Brett believes that leadership is about service, not status. His life’s work has been dedicated to helping others—students, families, and neighbors—reach their potential and build a stronger community together. As County Mayor, he will bring the same energy, experience, and servant’s heart that defined his four decades in education to the service of all Blount Countians.
In his own words:
“I’m not running to make government bigger. I’m running to make it better—more transparent, more responsive, and more focused on serving the people of Blount County with integrity and respect.”
Faith. Family. Service. Community.
These are the values that define Brett Coulter’s life—and the foundation upon which he seeks to lead Blount County into the future.
